Officials from the UVM Health Network asked the Green Mountain Care Board to approve a budget that would yield $1.4 billion in revenue and emphasize keeping people healthy.
The network says it can negotiate better prices on equipment and services in large part because of its growing number of member hospitals.
Vermont’s regulated hospitals are seeking to increase prices charged to commercial insurance companies an average of 2.4 percent.
It’s not a coincidence that the growth of the UVM Health Network, and a record number of hospital consolidations across the nation, started happening when Obamacare came about.
The company allegedly fraudulently obtained federal certification for its software, which providers could get incentive payments for using. Central Vermont Medical Center is one customer.
The Green Mountain Care Board voted to have hospitals use half of any unexpected profits they made in fiscal year 2016 to offset price increases.
