Bill Huff eloquently states the genesis of who and what Vermonters are. No name-calling, no derogatory insinuations, just a well thought out “history” of life in the natural world.
One of the appeals that Vermont offers is the natural beauty unspoiled by billboards. Visitors flock here to partake in the natural offerings of the state. Yes, we have warts, but that is part of the charm โ falling-down barns and unused vehicles in the yard. Maybe unsightly to some outsiders, but it is the real deal in Vermont.
I fly-fish and practice catch-and-release. Ditto with my spinning rod. I ran a trap line many years ago when furs were in vogue and I also did some squirrel or grouse hunting. I truly felt at home in the woods or on a wild river or lonely lake.
Why is that people from “outside” want to come here and change things? You came here for a reason and I bet it was the natural appeal of our mountains and valleys, small towns with the funky general store and a feed store, and of course that restaurant in the old Victorian house.
Live and let live is a worthwhile mantra. Thanks, Bill, for stating our case.
