South Burlington police say a man wanted for punching and repeatedly stabbing a woman and then fleeing early Monday morning turned himself in Tuesday afternoon.

The woman suffered knife wounds to her head, neck and arms in the attack. She was treated at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington and later released, according to a South Burlington police news release.

Police said the investigation revealed that the woman was attacked by her partner, Kevin Mack, 51, of South Burlington, who fled before police arrived.

Mack turned himself in at Chittenden County Superior criminal court Tuesday afternoon where he was arraigned on charges of first-degree aggravated domestic assault and violation of conditions of release in an earlier case, according to South Burlington police.

Mack was ordered held without bail and taken to the Northwest State Correctional Facility, police said.

Police said they were called to an apartment on Lime Kiln Road at about 1:10 a.m. Monday, where the woman had knife wounds to her neck, head and arms and had also been punched in the face.

A warrant was issued for Mackโ€™s arrest on a felony aggravated domestic assault charge, according to police. He was already supposed to be abiding by conditions of release from an alleged aggravated assault on the woman in October, and South Burlington Police Chief Shawn Burke said Mack was convicted of domestic assault more than a decade ago.
