The Underground Workshop article, “Climate Change and Vermont’s Birds,” brings light to a growing problem in the state of Vermont. However, the article doesn’t cover some of the more noticeable and favored birds in the state that have been declining.

One of these birds is not only now one of the rarest to see, but has been declining rapidly in recent years. This bird is the blue jay. My family has always loved the birds here in Vermont, One of our favorites is the blue jay. We love to sit outside and watch them fly around and do as birds tend to. However, in recent years, seeing blue jays has become much more difficult.

Nationwide, blue jays have declined by 27% between 1966 and 2019. It is not unreasonable that the decline has increased or at least continued.
