Going into a situation without knowing what to expect is a given for journalists — but some assignments require quicker thinking than others.
“Headfirst” was the theme of VTDigger’s second Local Live(s) event last week. At Foam Brewers in Burlington, local journalists and community members told stories of diving into odd, difficult and at times sublime decisions.
For Fred Thys, VTDigger’s business reporter, deciding how to approach a sensitive case left him wondering how to tell the full story without hurting the people at the center of it. And for Audi Guha, VTDigger’s senior editor, one assignment for a Mumbai newspaper early in her career prepared her to tackle more dangerous situations years later.
On this week’s podcast, recorded live at Foam Brewers, Fred Thys and Audi Guha talk about reporting in uncertain situations.
