Dear Reader,
Together with Vermont Glove last spring, VTDigger members sent thousands of cloth masks to local hospitals at a time when masks of any kind, along with Covid testing kits and other PPE, were extremely scarce. Amid so much pandemic uncertainty, all we knew was that our readers were depending on us and that, like us, you would be searching for ways to help each other weather this public health crisis.
None of us knew then how Covid safety measures would heavily impact school-aged children, especially those already experiencing poverty and high needs in the classroom.
That’s why VTDigger is partnering with the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) to increase awareness about the importance of summer reading this year and deliver exciting new books into the hands of Vermont kids across the state. Join us in this effort today.
Our goal is to inspire 3,000 members to support VTDigger’s rigorous journalism in the next 30 days and send 3,000 books to Vermont children for summer reading.

How it works:
- Make a tax-deductible donation to VTDigger online or by check sent to our offices at 26 State St., Montpelier, VT 05602
- You become a VTDigger member (membership lasts for one year)
- And CLiF gives one book to a low-income, at risk or rural Vermont kid
How are CLiF books selected and distributed?
Experienced program staff choose a wide selection of books sourced through CLiF’s relationships with distributors such as Scholastic, First Book and local bookstores. Books and literacy programs are delivered to an array of locations, including schools, libraries, meal sites, and affordable housing developments, with a focus on reaching low-income and working families.
This spring, we hope you’ll support our nonprofit Vermont journalism and CLiF’s literacy programs by joining our April membership drive. Our children and our democracy are vital investments.
