Northern Vermont communities reported some of the state’s highest rates of Covid in the latest Department of Health data, but take that report with a grain of salt: The data goes only to Wednesday, March 24.
The state reported a record-breaking 251 Covid cases in a single day Friday, with new records for Chittenden and Rutland counties. But those numbers aren’t reflected in the town-level data yet.
The town data instead reflects steep rises in Franklin and and Orleans counties that have occurred over the past several weeks. Among the northern communities in the highest category of case rates are Alburgh, Eden, Fairfield, Enosburgh, Jay, Newport City, St. Albans City, Troy, Westfield and Wolcott.
In Vermont’s northeast corner, Essex County had a handful of places with high case rates: Concord, East Haven and Guildhall.
In southern Vermont, Proctor and Killington were the only communities in the highest category of Covid rates. Killington in particular seems hard-hit by the disease. It’s been in the highest category for six weeks in a row.
