Several towns in Franklin County doubled case counts in the past two weeks as the county experiences a surge in cases, Department of Health data shows.

Franklin County reported a new record high of 36 cases on Friday, but the count only includes cases through Wednesday. However, the data still shows increasing spread of the virus in that county: Franklin, Sheldon and Richford all doubled case counts in just two weeks.

Enosburgh and Westfield were also rated by the health department as having the highest category of cases in the past two weeks compared to their population, on top of the towns listed above.

Several towns in southern Vermont were rated in the highest category as well, showing the continuing toll of the virus as Bennington and Rutland counties slowly recover from a surge.

Bennington town, Benson, West Rutland and Pittsford had high rates. Bennington had the second-highest number of total cases added in the past two weeks with 111 new cases, just behind Burlington, the state’s most populous city, with 115 new cases.

Rutland city had the highest percent increase of any municipality with more than 100 total Covid cases, growing 41% in the past two weeks.

Northfield, Ryegate, Victory and Guildhall were also in the highest category of case growth according to the DOH map.
