As a faculty member in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Vermont, I want to express my support for Dean Falls’ leadership. I can only imagine that the generation of a proposal which eliminates departments, majors and minors is extremely difficult for him and the university’s administration. However, the status quo is simply not sustainable.
I advocate that it is time for the faculty and administration to roll up their sleeves, work together, and ensure the sustainability of the excellent education for students and the research/scholarly contributions of the faculty at UVM. I believe strongly that we have an administration in place in the college that can lead us in accomplishing these goals.
Yes, it is going to be painful for all of us but I have confidence in Dean Falls’ leadership. While I do not envy his position, I for one am truly appreciative of his efforts on behalf of the college and the university.
