Winooski had a 57% increase in its Covid cases in a single week, moving it from sixth-highest in the state for Covid cases to third, according to Department of Health data released Friday.
The city has had 250 Covid cases, making it the only city with 30 total cases or more and an increase of more than 50% in Covid cases this week. St. Albans had a 41% increase in Covid cases, bringing it to 163 total cases.
St. Albans is the site of a nursing home outbreak at St. Albans Healthcare and Rehab Center, which has had 76 Covid cases.
Along with St. Albans, the municipalities with the most Covid cases relative to their population in the past two weeks include Lowell, Craftsbury, Greensboro, Guildhall, Waterford and Victory.
The Department of Health reports exact figures only for towns with more than five cases in total. Some of those towns, like Victory, are so small that the health department reports they have a high rate of Covid cases even if they haven’t had more than five cases yet.
The data shows that 140 towns in total have had at least six cases of the virus, over half of the municipalities in Vermont.

- VTDigger plans to transition its weekly town table to a two-week change rather than one week as previously reported. This is to make it easier to compare our data to the state’s.
- A handful of towns appear to have lost Covid cases. In the past, the Department of Health has said that location data about a case may change as the state gets a better understanding of a person’s residence or living situation.
