Gov. Phil Scott issued an executive order  Friday prohibiting indoor skating facilities from taking new reservations for use of their facilities until Oct. 30, effective immediately, according to a press release from the Governor’s Office.

The rinks may continue to hold activities that are already scheduled.

Eighteen cases have been linked to Montpelier’s Central Vermont Memorial Civic Center, according to the Vermont Department of Health.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu also closed indoor skating facilities for two weeks starting Friday. There have been 153 Covid-19 cases in New Hampshire among 23 hockey groups, according to the release.

Scott said the Montpelier-area cases and the New Hampshire cases may be linked, and the order is to prevent an influx of new users to Vermont facilities.

“To reduce the risk to Vermonters, and to help sustain the progress we have made, rinks in Vermont may not take any additional reservations for the next two weeks,” Scott said.

Scott also directed state officials to review current recreation guidance.
