The state Department of Health reported 36 new cases of Covid-19 Thursday, bringing the total number of people diagnosed with the illness since the outbreak began in March to 1,026.

Thirty-four of the 36 are from testing in Winooski, where a cluster of cases has prompted a pop-up testing site this week at the O’Brien Community Center. Testing there will continue Friday and Tuesday.

Health Commissioner Mark Levine said he expects to see more positive results.

โ€œWe expect outbreaks, but we are prepared to contain them,” he said.

There were no new deaths, keeping the total number of people who have died from Covid-19 in Vermont at 55. There are 13 people hospitalized with suspected, but not confirmed, cases. No one is hospitalized with a confirmed case.

The state reported 639 new tests conducted, bringing the total to 37,834.
