— Child care providers emphasized to Senate Health and Welfare lawmakers that they need more support now than they ever did before as they begin to reopen to families. Gov. Phil Scott is allowing all child care centers to open June 1, but under strict guidelines.
Aly Richards, CEO of Let’s Grow Kids, stressed that child care providers could benefit from another round of restart grants and wage support to allow the businesses to continue to operate on a decreased capacity as families trickle back in. She said centers are also desperate for cleaning supplies.
“PPE, sanitation supplies, Clorox wipes, these are not hanging around. They are not easy to find,” Richards said. “And we can’t tell you how many programs have literally said ‘We’re actually ready to reopen June 1, but for Clorox wipes, but for these supplies.’ That’s a big deal.” – Grace Elletson
— Pro Tem Tim Ashe, D/P-Chittenden, is kicking off his campaign for lieutenant governor.
On May 28, the senator will be holding a series of virtual kickoff events online, according to a press release sent out yesterday. “I am excited to engage directly with Vermonters next week, even if only through a screen, to tell them about how this race really matters for the future of our state,” Ashe said in a statement.
