The VTDigger community has raised 3,000 cloth masks for area hospitals while supporting local journalism at a time when we really need it.
Our newsroom and business staff are incredibly thankful to members for stepping up during these uncertain times to support us as well as our health care community. We hope you enjoy some of the “thank you” pics below from our homes (and cars) to yours!
Over the course of this mask drive, Vermont Glove sent 475 masks each to Central Vermont Medical Center, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, and Gifford Medical Center, 325 masks each to North Country Hospital, 250 masks each to Northwestern Medical Center, Mt. Ascutney Hospital, Rutland Regional Medical Center, and Southwestern Vermont Health Care, 150 masks to UVM Health Network in Burlington, and 100 masks to Grace Cottage Hospital.
Quantities were based on amounts hospitals needed, and we are proud to say that we were able to deliver second shipments to hospitals that were experiencing needs far beyond their initial estimates.
In a note to VTDigger on Friday, Sam Hooper, President of Vermont Glove, expressed his gratitude to the readers and sewers. “Vermont Glove is proud to have partnered with VTDigger’s members on this effort. We believe local news is vital to our community, and we are thankful to have such a news organization serving our state,” he wrote. “A huge thank you to all of our team members and home sewers for working tirelessly to make a difference for those in need of masks.”
We are deeply grateful for the amount of support and kind words that we have received over the course of this drive. It is humbling, sobering, and inspiring.
