Nestled on North Main Street in Rochester, pastry purveyor Sandy’s Books and Bakery is open for pickup. Fridays from 12 noon to 4 p.m., hungry customers can collect their orders from the downtown eatery’s side porch. Orders are accepted by phone or email until the end of the day on Thursdays.

Patrons can select from store favorites, like bagels, as well as a rotating menu, which can be found on Sandy’s Facebook page or by calling 802-767-4258. Options include classics like honey whole wheat and white breads, sourdough ciabatta and hot cross buns.

Sandy’s also offers non-baked goods including two soups each week, like Vegetarian Gypsy Stew, Black Bean Beef, Creamy Vegetable. The staff will also consider special requests for off-menu items.

Not content to stop there, Sandy’s is also serving pizza on Sundays. Cheese, pepperoni, and veggie pies are available, with order and pick-up hours from 4 – 8 PM.

Sandy’s books also remain available for sale. A selection can be found on the store’s Biblio page, while other inquiries can be made by phone.

Sandy’s is taking every possible precaution to maximize safety and minimize customer contact. While still accepting cash upon arrival, the bakery is accepting payment in advance by card over the phone as well as by Venmo, the popular payment app from Paypal.

They’ve also launched a novel payment option: customers can participate in what the owner calls a CSB (Community Supported Bakery) program. The program, in which interested parties can enroll by email, creates a credit system for customers. As an added incentive, participants receive an additional $5 of credit for every $50 they pay into the program.

The eponymous Sandy, whose business has occupied its Rochester location since 2004, expressed gratitude to her community for their patronage over the last month. “They’re really coming out to support us,” she said.
