The Haven has adjusted its food shelf and shelter services during the Covid-19 pandemic in order to continue to help those in need in the Upper Valley from its location in White River Junction.

“Our goal is focused on safety,” food shelf manager Lori Wick said. “While we continue to provide a generous supply of nutritious food to everyone who comes here, we’ve totally redesigned the process to minimize contact and to efficiently move customers from registration through loading their car with food we’ve provided.”

The food shelf operation, which served over 12,000 people last year, provides non-perishable items as well as dairy, meat and produce. Customers can register over the telephone and then pick up their items outside the facility. Due to the pandemic, the Haven has shut down its Caruso Café hot food program.

The Haven’s adult and family shelters remain open, and there are now single bedrooms and private bathrooms for every adult in the Hixon shelter rather than shared rooms, according to a statement released by the program. The Haven is now providing support to over 40 adults who are staying in local motels through state vouchers.
