A Newport woman faces an attempted murder charge and more after police said she stabbed a man Sunday.

Jennifer Foster, 42, was arrested early that morning, according to the Newport Police Department.

She was set for arraignment Monday on charges of attempted murder, first-degree aggravated domestic assault and violation of conditions of release.

Officers responded to an apartment on Prospect Street at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday and found a 27-year-old man who had been stabbed in the abdomen, according to a press release.

Police believed the man โ€” whose identity was withheld โ€” had been fighting with Foster about his attempt to get his phone from the apartment when she stabbed him, according to the release.

The man was taken to a hospital and treated for serious but not life-threatening wounds, officers said.

Foster was arrested without incident, police said. She was being held without bail as of Tuesday morning, according to the Department of Correctionsโ€™ offender database.
