In Monday’s news:

The health department announced there are now 12 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state. Those include individuals from Chittenden County, Orange County, and Bennington County. The new positive test results are not travel related, and were contracted in the community. Read VTDigger’s story

As the number of Vermont’s COVID-19 cases rose, Gov. Phil Scott ordered bars and restaurants to stop offering dine-in service across the state effective 2 p.m. Tuesday. Establishments can only offer take-out and delivery services through April 6. Read VTDigger’s story

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger ordered the closing of city eateries beginning at 6 a.m Tuesday, as he declared a city emergency. Non-essential city services will be limited starting Wednesday; water, electricity, and emergency response will continue. Read VTDigger’s story

Canada is closing the border to non-Canadian citizens and permanent residents though it is leaving an exception for United States citizens. Land border points of entry, like those along the Vermont and Quebec border will remain open. Read VTDigger’s story

Three of Vermont’s largest electric utilities, and its sole natural gas utility, will stop disconnections through the end of April, citing potential financial hardships customers may face from the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Read VTDigger’s story

Emergency response services in Vermont are having a hard time re-ordering PPE — personal protective equipment — with some suppliers offering delivery in June. The state says it has a “strategic stockpile” and has requested assistance from the federal government. Read VTDigger’s story
