Dear Reader,

People often ask me why VTDigger doesn’t have a subscription payment program with a paywall like many commercial newspapers around the country.

Paywalls block access to stories, forcing readers to pay a fee. Unfortunately, this model is not generating enough revenue to support most local online newspapers.

Our approach is the opposite. Anyone can read the news on VTDigger for free. This ensures that as many people as possible have access to coverage of all of the most important news you need about Vermont.

But local reporting is a costly enterprise. We have 20 full-time and part-time staff gathering story leads from readers, interviewing, fact-checking, reading documents, editing and writing reports every day to make sure you have the news you need.

VTDigger is reader supported. About 40% of our budget comes from readers who value the dogged reporting of our news staff.

If everyone gave, we could end the drive today.

Whether you are renewing your commitment to supporting VTDigger or contributing for the first time, every penny counts โ€” twice!

For a limited time, every dollar donated to VTDigger up to $65,000 will be matched by the Knight Foundation, Democracy Fund, REI Co-op, and generous friends of VTDigger. New monthly contributions and one-time gifts of up to $1,000 count toward this match.

Do you value our work?

VTDigger covers news you canโ€™t find anywhere else. Please help us continue to tell the stories that need to be told. A special gift in any amount will support the news you count on.

With gratitude,

Anne Galloway

Executive Director and Editor of VTDigger
