Dear Reader,

At VTDigger, we cover the issues that affect our readers. And it’s because of engaged and generous readers that we have the only reporter in the state exclusively covering energy and the environment.

It is impossible to think of an issue with greater potential to transform life as we know it than climate change. That’s why in September we joined news publishers all over the world for Covering Climate Now to focus the media’s lens on climate change.

In a special weeklong series that culminated in coverage of the Sept. 20 climate strike, VTDigger’s energy and environment reporter, Elizabeth Gribkoff, looked at the changes Vermont is already experiencing as a result of rising temperatures, the impact of “climigration” on population, and interviewed Vermonters on the frontlines of climate action — from veterans like Bill McKibben to the youngest new warriors like 13-year-old Django Grace.

But September isn’t the only month VTDigger is on the climate beat; we cover energy and the environment every month of the year.

Elizabeth spends every day talking with policymakers, advocates and experts working on issues like the Lake Carmi crisis, the expansion of the Coventry landfill, PFAs pollution in wells and the failure of the recycling market. And just as importantly, she talks to people on the ground who are feeling the effects of decisions being made in Washington, D.C., and Montpelier.

We’re able to do this in-depth, sustained coverage of issues impacting Vermont because of support from our readers and people who believe our work is important.

Thanks to a generous match from REI Co-op to support climate coverage, all donations up to $10,000 to VTDigger will be matched dollar for dollar.

Will you support our mission and join VTDigger today?

By Dec. 31, we need to raise $350,000 to meet our budget for this year and keep our reporting strong.

VTDigger covers news you can’t find anywhere else. Please help us continue to tell the stories that need to be told. A special gift in any amount will support the news you can rely on.

With gratitude,

Anne Galloway

Executive Director and Editor of VTDigger
