Two out-of-state men have been arrested by Vermont State Police in connection with the trafficking tens of thousands of dollars worth of fentanyl and cocaine throughout Southern Vermont.

The defendants, 30-year-old Angel Stevenson of New York and 32-year-old Robert Boyd of Hollywood, Florida, are now facing up to 60 years behind bars and $2 million in fines each.

Police were led to the men Thursday night after a routine traffic stop in which a driver was found with half an ounce of cocaine, according to an affidavit. The driver ultimately gave up the address where he procured the drugs, telling officers the dealer in question went by the name of “Lyte.”

Later that night, nine uniformed officers and three members of the Vermont Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence on Lapham Bay Road.

Upon entry, police found four people — a woman and 7-year-old child in the living room, a man, Angel Stevenson, in the bathroom, with his hands inside the toilet, and another man, Robert Boyd, lying in the bedroom with his hands up, the affidavit notes.

When police went back to the toilet, they found several bags that tests later confirmed as probable cocaine and fentanyl.

The task force informed police that Robert Boyd was the legal name of “Lyte,” who had been named in their tip, and was known to be an active drug dealer in Southern Vermont. However, Boyd was on probation in Florida, and not allowed to leave the state. State troopers noted in the affidavit that Boyd’s arrest was reported to the Interstate Probation office, which said it will be seeking a probation warrant.

Back at the house, approximately 18.8 grams of fentanyl and 158.3 grams of cocaine were found in and around the toilet, though police said the substances could not be accurately weighed due to the fact that they were wet. Officers also found $2,600 in the bedroom.

The drugs were determined to have a total estimated street value of more than $35,000, and an amount of fentanyl equivalent to 600 doses, the affidavit notes.

Both Stevenson and Boyd were charged with cocaine trafficking and fentanyl trafficking. Boyd’s bail was set at $100,000 while Stevenson’s was set at $25,000.

The Vermont State Police reported that they were assisted by members of the Rutland City Police Department and a K-9 named Cobalt in the arrests.
