BURLINGTON — Police Chief Brandon del Pozo returned to duty Monday after a six-week leave of absence. Police continue to decline to explain the reason behind his leave.
Olivia Lavecchia, a spokesperson for Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, said Monday that del Pozo was returning from his Family and Medical Leave of Absence, effective immediately.
Deputy Chief Jon Murad would not expand on the reasons for del Pozo’s leave, which was announced Aug. 2.
“He took leave because of family medical leave,” Murad said. “We’ve very glad to have him back.”
Murad deflected when asked if he thought the vagueness of the announcement of the leave and return would lead to public concern.
“I refer you again to the city’s position,” he said.
Jordan Redell, Weinberger’s chief of staff, said at the start of the leave that details related to family and medical leave of absence are “protected by employee privacy rules.”
Del Pozo also took a leave last summer after sustaining a head injury and broken ribs after a single bicycle crash in the Adirondacks in June 2018. He was absent for two months.
He was appointed chief in 2015.
