According to a VSP press release, Jacqueline Higgins, 57, showed “signs of impairment” following a crash in Tunbridge, where she lives. Police took Higgins into the Royalton Barracks after they ran “standardized field sobriety tests” that Higgins did not pass.

The accident took place at 10:05 p.m. Thursday in clear, dry conditions. Higgins drove a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The truck sustained damages; Higgins was not injured.

In addition to serving as the Williamstown town manager, Higgins has also spent time as a Chelsea selectboard member and an administrative assistant for both Tunbridge and South Royalton. In 2001, she told the Herald of Randolph that her interest in municipal work began with the Chelsea selectboard, and she appears to have worked in town government ever since.

The Williamstown town clerk declined to comment, and Higgins did not respond to an email sent Monday. It is unclear whether her role as town manager will be impacted. She is set to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on Aug. 28.
