Scott’s decisions on abortion and gun control ‘a wash’ politically

Observers say Gov. Phil Scott’s decisions on two key bills this week are politically “a wash.” Scott signed H.57, some of the strongest abortion protections in the nation, and vetoed S.169, a 24-hour waiting period for handgun purchases. Democrats believe Scott would have faced criticism if he had struck down the abortion bill, while some say vetoing the gun bill may help him regain support on the right.

Attorney General will review dismissal of Chittenden murder cases

Attorney General TJ Donovan will review the decision by Chittenden County State’s Attorney Sarah George to dismiss three high-profile cases. Gov. Scott requested the review last week. Donovan has said he’ll follow through, but that refiling dismissed cases is rare.

E-scooters in Burlington sidelined, future uncertain

Electronic scooters will not be coming to Burlington this summer. A last-minute move by the Legislature in the closing days of the session blocked the city’s attempts to bring e-scooter rentals to the city. It’s unclear whether officials will move forward with a pilot program again in the future.
