Two abortion-rights measures advanced in the Statehouse Tuesday. The Senate gave preliminary approval to a bill that says state government can’t hinder access to abortion, while the House approved a similar constitutional amendment. Researchers say that if enacted, these would be the most progressive abortion laws in the country.

Two views of Bourgoin: Prosecutor and defense make opening arguments

The trial of Steven Bourgoin began this week. Bourgoin faces murder charges stemming from a wrong-way crash on I-89 that killed five teenagers in 2016. Opening arguments Monday laid out a central question for the trial – was Bourgoin acting out of rage, or was he legally insane, at the time of the crash? The prosecution makes their case this week.

Landfill owner blames odor complaint spike on ‘tactics’ by expansion opponents

Odor complaints about the Coventry landfill went up by a factor of ten last year. Residents say they’ve made a concerted effort to increase awareness about odor reporting, but landfill operator Casella blames the spike on opponents of a controversial plan to expand the facility.
