Greatest challenge to Democratic โsupermajorityโ may come from within
With only a few weeks left in the legislative session, Democratic Party leaders are facing resistance in their own caucus to some of this yearโs major priorities. Enough Democrats oppose the current minimum wage and paid family leave bills that insiders say the caucus would be unlikely to override potential vetoes by the governor. But some lawmakers say thereโs still time to reach consensus on both measures.
No construction date for CityPlace project in Burlington
The majority partner in the Burlington CityPlace development is backing away from its goal to start construction in June. Representatives from Brookfield Asset Management addressed the city council this week, declining to say even generally when construction would start. The project has residents increasingly worried over the repeated delays.
Judge dismisses Stowe, Elmore-Morristown Act 46 lawsuit
One of the three court challenges to Act 46 was dismissed this week. A judge ruled that the Stowe and Elmore-Morristown school districts would not be exempted from the law. The state board of education has ordered those districts to merge by July 1.
