[A]n 88-year-old man who was clearing snow with a tractor near railroad tracks in Fairlee was struck by a train and killed on Wednesday afternoon.
Lloyd Raymond was apparently clearing a private driveway and moving snow across the tracks when his John Deere tractor was struck by a Vermont Rail System train, according to the Vermont State Police. The accident occurred near Hodges Farm.
The tractor sustained major damage, and police said Raymond sustained fatal injuries. He was found dead at the scene.
The Vermont State Police are investigating the cause of Raymond’s death. The Vermont Rail System is conducting a probe into the accident under the supervision of the Federal Rail Safety Administration.
No criminal charges are pending at this time.
