[W]ILDER โ€” Authorities have captured and killed a bobcat that bit two people and may have been rabid.

Hartford police and Vermont game wardens earlier today warned residents near the Hazen Trail in Wilder to stay inside this morning as they tracked a bobcat they suspect is rabid.

Hartford police around noon said on Facebook that the bobcat was โ€œcontained by police in the area of Prospect Street and has since been removed by Fish & Wildlife wardens.โ€

Earlier, officials were searching in the area of Candlelight Terrace and the Hazen Trail off Route 5 in Wilder Village. The bobcat was believed to weigh about 25 pounds and was suspected of being rabid. Police said it bit a resident in the yard of her home on Candlelight Terrace โ€œwithout provocation.โ€ She has been taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A second person was also reported to have bitten by the bobcat.
