Help wanted: Teachers, principals in demand in many districts
An Agency of Education survey shows that several Vermont schools are struggling to hire math teachers, principals, library specialists and more. Experts say it’s especially difficult for small, rural districts to offer competitive pay and amenities, and that there are fewer people entering the education field overall.
Democrats attack Scott for taking campaign money from Purdue Pharma
In the governor’s race, Vermont Democrats are calling out Gov. Phil Scott’s campaign for accepting $1,000 from the drug manufacturer Purdue Pharma while the state fights the opioid crisis. Scott’s campaign said it’s wrong to politicize a public health issue, and pointed out that Democratic candidates regularly accept cash from drug companies.
Mural should move by 2022, task force tells Burlington City Council
A mural near the Church Street marketplace in Burlington has been criticized for ignoring minority populations. Now, a task force is recommending that the artwork be moved offsite by 2020. The City Council is expected to decide on the mural’s fate next month.
