[A] Vermont woman has been arrested and is heading to Florida where she is wanted for allegedly violating her probation stemming from convictions linked to a 2012 murder case.
Kaitlyn Robare, 25, of Colchester, was taken into custody Tuesday following a traffic stop in South Burlington, according to Michael Barron, supervisor of the warrant division with the U.S. Marshals Service in Vermont.
“We were actively looking for her and specifically stopped the vehicle because we believed she was in it,” Barron said Thursday.
He added that Robare was taken into custody without incident.
“I don’t think she was aware of the warrant,” Barron said.
Though Robare’s conviction occurred in Florida, her probation supervision had since been transferred to Vermont where she has been living.
Robare had earlier pleaded guilty in Florida to being an accessory after the fact to a first-degree or life felony, and one count of false report to law enforcement authorities concerning a capital felony in connection with the 2012 homicide.
Barron referred specific questions regarding Robare’s probation to either the Vermont or Florida departments of corrections. The Vermont Department of Corrections office was closed Thursday because of the Bennington Battle Day state holiday.
The Florida Department of Corrections on Thursday provided several documents related to Robare’s case, including a warrant issued Aug. 6 in Florida for her arrest citing several probation violations.
According to court records in Florida, Robare is accused of violating her probation by failing to pay a share of the cost of her probation supervision and not completing her required community service.
Robare is required to pay at least $50 a month to cover the cost of her probation supervision, court records stated. In addition, she has only performed about one-third of the 150 hours of community service she was ordered to complete.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service and media reports from Florida, Robare’s convictions stem from a deadly shooting in March 2012 in St. Cloud, Florida.
Two men, Cody White and David Smith, were arrested and convicted for shooting another man, Patrick Bacon, in the head three times during a botched drug deal and fatally shooting a woman, Anita Smith, who happened to walk in on the encounter.
Both White and Smith received 60-year prison sentence on convictions for third-degree murder and robbery with a firearm charges.
Authorities said Robare assisted White and Smith in leaving the homicide area and then provided conflicting reports to police about the shootings and the whereabouts of White and Smith.
She received a sentence of five years probation, according to the Florida Department of Corrections records. The sentence, according to media reports, was part of a plea deal that included a “downward departure” for agreeing to testify against White and Smith.
The Marshals Service’s Vermont Violent Offender Task Force as well as the Colchester and Winooski police departments assisted in the arrest.
The Marshals Service was involved in the case due to the out-of-state warrant and the serious nature of Robare’s underlying offense relating to that 2012 homicide in Florida.
Robare is currently incarcerated at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington awaiting her return to Florida. Her arrest comes just weeks before her probation term was set to expire on Oct. 2, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.
