Gun activists put up a ‘hurdle’ on Scott’s path to re-election
Gun rights advocates are working to unseat Governor Phil Scott after he signed new gun restrictions last session. The Gun Owners of Vermont group has nearly tripled in size since those laws were put on the table. Analysts say these voters are unlikely to hurt Scott in the general election, but they do make him more vulnerable in next week’s Republican primary.
Hallquist pledges to give back $16K in corporate cash
On the Democrat side, candidate Christine Hallquist has pledged to return 16,000 dollars in corporate campaign donations. Hallquist had previously defended taking donations from Vermont companies, but she faced criticism from primary opponents who had sworn off corporate cash.
Black bears destroy cars, break in to chicken coops
State wildlife officials say bear encounters are on the rise. Last month, a black bear destroyed the interior of a parked car in Warren. Vermont Fish and Wildlife said that’s just the latest in a string of bear encounters, and that bear complaints have been increasing for the past ten years.
