Consumer advocate barred from insurance rate hearing; state won’t say why
The state’s health care oversight board blocked a designated consumer advocate from acting as an expert witness at a hearing on insurance rate hikes. The Blue Cross Blue Shield and MVP insurance companies requested that the Green Mountain Care Board block public advocate Mike Fisher’s report. Fisher was allowed to speak at a public hearing on Tuesday.
No gifting, no problem. Pot entrepreneurs still see opportunity
Vermont Attorney General TJ Donovan issued guidance this week that so-called gifting businesses that give away cannabis with other purchases are illegal under the state’s legalization system. Now, entrepreneurs are exploring models like private clubs and pot-friendly lodging to take advantage of the budding industry.
Recycling costs rise as glutted global markets get picky about U.S. recyclables
Some Vermonters may notice their trash hauling bills going up. After China banned imports of two dozen kinds of solid waste, state lawmakers passed a bill that allows recycling facilities here to begin charging new fees. Now, those costs are being passed on to consumers.
