House lawmakers move to prevent government shutdown
Legislators are resuming the special session to resolve a budget disagreement with Governor Phil Scott. Their latest proposal is meant to avert a government shutdown in July — it ensures the state will be funded for the next fiscal year, but it doesn’t address the surplus money at the heart of the dispute.
Holcombe won’t run for governor
Rebecca Holcombe says she won’t be running for governor this year. The former education secretary abruptly resigned in March, and for weeks, Democrats have speculated that she might consider challenging Scott this fall. Holcombe says she’s still looking for other ways to contribute to policy solutions.
SunCommon soaks up more sun as it expands further into New York state
Vermont’s largest solar company is expanding further into the New York market. SunCommon has acquired Hudson Solar, marking the company’s second venture into New York state. SunCommon co-founder Duane Peterson says the company has no plans to leave Vermont, and the acquisition will create jobs in both states.
