Dear Readers,

Over the last nine years, VTDigger has gone from an all-volunteer staff of one to the largest newsroom in the state of Vermont. You can support this work by giving now. In the home stretch, all gifts will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by some very generous friends of VTDigger.

Kevin O’Connor, a Brattleboro-based writer for VTDigger, doesn’t have an easily summarized beat. He can switch easily from covering protesters against recently enacted gun control measures, to reporting the increase of Vermonters of color running for public office, to spinning thoughtful, in-depth profiles of important Vermonters like Gov. Phil Hoff and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Alison Bechdel.

Kevin O’Connor

Here’s how Kevin views his role at VTDigger:

“I talk with Vermonters in their hometowns about what they’re thinking, feeling and doing — be it planting in the soil, producing at a studio or protesting on a stage. Last year, I wrote a feature about a Vermont father who, shaken 15 years ago by the suicide of his eighth-grade son, quit his job to tell teenagers nationwide about the real-life ramifications of cyberbullying.

Stories like these make a difference. People need to know the goings-on of government. But ultimately the ideal of “government of the people, by the people, for the people” works only if leaders understand the hearts and minds of those they serve.”

Our writers are great at what they do. But we can only bring them to you with your support. Over 230,000 people read VTDigger every month and yet only 1% support our work with a gift each year. Please help us to increase that percentage, so that writers like Kevin can bring you stories that matter.

Ways to give

A tax-deductible gift to VTDigger is one of the best ways to ensure that our reporting remains strong.

Help us end our spring drive! Please give today.

Thank you for your support.
