Thanks to you, our generous readers, we were able to meet our $10,000 donor match challenge. Over the past seven days we raised $10,993 from 107 individual donors. The Sustainable Future Challenge has been met and we will receive an additional $10,000 thanks to your generosity.
As you know, VTDigger needs to raise $200,000 during this spring drive. We are grateful to the nearly 700 readers who have helped us raise $129,000 so far. By meeting this match we are significantly closer to ending the fund drive and we need to raise only $71,000 more by Memorial Day! Please help us reach our goal and end this drive.
Over the past nine years, VTDigger has grown to fill gaps in the media landscape. We’ve hired reporters to cover important beats like health care and education. And we’ve invested in deep dive coverage of four counties — Chittenden, Bennington, Rutland and Windham. But that doesn’t make up for the dozens of reporters and editors in Vermont who have been laid off over the past 15 years. During that period, the number of daily newspaper journalists was cut in half. Fewer reporters than ever are on the job now holding public officials accountable and regularly exercising the public’s right to know.
