Scott ‘fairly certain’ that a veto session is on the way
Gov. Phil Scott said this week that he’s “fairly certain” the legislature will need to reconvene for a veto session this June. Scott has pledged to oppose several bills because they impose new taxes or fees. But lawmakers have continued advancing those proposals despite the threat of vetoes.
Scott administration looks to impose student ratios
Education spending is another key conflict. The Scott administration is pushing for a statewide student-to-staff ratio, a statewide teacher health benefit, and changes to the special ed system. Lawmakers say this plan is rushed, and could result in 1,000 school staff losing jobs over the next five years.
Judge dismisses EB-5 investor lawsuit against state
A superior court judge dismissed an EB-5 investor case that alleged state officials were negligent and violated securities laws. The judge ruled that the state is not responsible for harm caused to investors by the fraud at Jay Peak Resort.
