The group represents 20 alpine ski areas and 30 cross-country centers in Vermont.

Mahar, a Waitsfield resident and University of Vermont graduate, currently oversees marketing, sales and communications at Loon Mountain Resort in New Hampshire. She previously worked in marketing at Sugarbush Resort, Bolton Valley Resort and the ski areas association, according to the release.

As president of the group, she will represent the industry as a lobbyist at the Statehouse.

โ€œI look forward to working with the Ski Vermont membership and staff, government agencies and other groups toward collaborative solutions to make Vermont a better place for everyone to live, work and play,โ€ she said in a statement. Ski Vermont is the associationโ€™s public identity for marketing.

The chair of the associationโ€™s board, Mike Solimano of Killington Resort, lauded her experience.

The previous head of the association, Parker Riehle, was selected in August to head the National Ski Areas Association, based in Colorado. He expected to begin the new job in January.

Less than a month later, however, Riehle withdrew from the job with the national association, citing โ€œpersonal reasonsโ€ that prevented him from relocating to Colorado.

Riehle left the Vermont Ski Areas Association a month later in November to form his own lobbying group.
