[J]ames Campbell, 57, of Swanton, was sentenced Thursday to serve 11 years in prison for possession of child pornography.
U.S. District Judge Geoffrey Crawford sentenced Campbell to serve 135 months in prison and 10 years of supervised release. He is also required to pay a $100 special assessment.
Law enforcement seized a dozen devices at Campbell’s home after an undercover operation determined that he had been downloading child pornography from the internet.
Campbell had downloaded 1.3 million images and 18,700 videos depicting child pornography on his computer devices, according to the U.S. Attorney in Burlington. Many of the photos were sadistic and masochistic images of prepubescent children. The images were “meticulously organized” in folders by month of download and victim, police said.
Campbell admitted that he downloaded the images and he told law enforcement that he looked at the images while masturbating.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara A. Masterson prosecuted the case. Campbell, who pleaded guilty, was represented by federal public defender Michael L. Desautels.
In 2007, Campbell was convicted of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The sentence was suspended for all but 14 months and he was placed on probation when he was released, the U.S. attorney’s office said in a press release.
