[W]INOOSKI — Tech firm MyWebGrocer is laying off 18 of its Vermont employees as part of a restructuring process it says will help to meet its customersโ€™ needs.

MyWebGrocer, located in the Old Woolen Mill building, provides online support to grocery businesses. It said in a statement Tuesday that the restructuring is companywide and comes in response to changes in the digital grocery market.

The company has 315 employees in the United States, Canada, Ireland and England. The statement does not say how many of its employees outside Vermont are affected by the layoffs.

MyWebGrocer was not required to notify the Vermont Department of Labor about the cuts, because they affected fewer than 50 employees. However, the firm says it provided the names of terminated workers to the department so it can help them find new jobs.

The employees who were laid off were also offered severance packages, according to the company statement.

โ€œThe world of digital grocery is moving faster now than at any time during the last 17 years. It is an exciting time to be working with brands and grocers to enable their digital plans,โ€ said Barry Clogan, president of retail solutions, in a statement. โ€œIn this fast-moving market it is important we align our teams and capabilities to support our customers and evolve our successful e-commerce and media offering. To support that strategy we have reorganized and reallocated resources.โ€

MyWebGrocer is owned by HGGC LLC, a private equity firm located in Palo Alto, California.
