[A]n explosion at the UTC Aerospace Systems in Vergennes Friday injured three people on Friday, according to the Vermont State Police.

The injuries were non-life threatening, police say. The individuals were hospitalized at Porter Hospital in Middlebury and UVM Medical Center in Burlington. Two of the individuals have been released.

All employees were evacuated from the plant.

The Vergennes Fire Department and the fire investigative unit of the Department of Public Safety responded to the scene. The incident is under investigation, but it is not considered to be suspicious or a threat to the public.

VPR reported that an outdoor dust collector at the plant exploded around noon and caused significant damage.

UTC Aerospace Systems is an international aerospace and defense contractor. The company, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, has 41,000 employees worldwide with annual sales of $14 billion, according to the company website. It is a subsidiary of United Technologies.
