Sen. Patrick Leahy, left, with Theresa Murray Clasen, VTDigger underwriting director.

Dear friends,

Thanks to the generosity of our readers, we have raised more than $80,000 for our annual fund drive so far. We are grateful to the 400-plus readers who have made a commitment to support VTDigger. We have about $265,000 to raise before Dec. 31.

If you read us and haven’t given yet, we hope you will make a contribution today. About 55,000 people a week regularly read VTDigger. If just 10 percent of those readers gave $50 today, we could end our annual drive now.

As part of our inside Digger series, we are highlighting the work of key members of our reporting and business teams. Last week Mike Dougherty, VTDigger’s community and multi-media editor, talked about his weekly Deeper Dig podcast productions.

This week, Theresa Murray-Clasen, director of underwriting, explains how VTDigger events bring readers together around issues that matter.

Whether it’s a signature event like a statewide gubernatorial debate or a discussion about fake news or Amazon’s economic impact on Vermont, engaging readers in civic discourse on issues that matter is a cornerstone of VTDigger’s mission.

As a digital news organization, we believe it is especially important to bring people together from across the political spectrum to talk about controversial issues.

For underwriters, it is an opportunity to support our work while showcasing their organization.

Your ongoing support keeps VTDigger on the road and in our communities.

We hope to see you at our next event, “Lake Champlain clean up. Who pays?” at the Flynn Center for the Arts in Burlington starting at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.
