[T]he death of a Shrewsbury woman last month that had been under police investigation has been ruled a suicide.

An amended death certificate was filed recently for Sara Reynolds with the state Department of Health.

An earlier version of the certificate listed a gunshot wound to her head as the cause of her death. However, that document said the manner of death remained pending.

The updated death certificate now lists her manner of death as suicide.

Vermont State Police detectives and crime scene investigators spent most of Sept. 21 at a Cold River Road home as they looked into Reynoldsโ€™ death.

Police said they were called to the home she shared with her boyfriend around 1:55 a.m. that day. The boyfriend, calling from a neighborโ€™s home, reported that Reynolds had killed herself at their residence.

The previous evening, according to police, Reynolds had called authorities to say her boyfriend had left the home and may be suicidal. Reynolds then called back to say her boyfriend had returned home and everything was fine, according to police.

The latest death certificate stated that Reynolds, 32, a registered nurse, was pronounced dead at her home about 2:16 a.m. Sept. 21.

Maj. Glenn Hall, state police criminal division commander, said Thursday that police investigate unattended deaths.

โ€œIf there are things that we are not sure about we treat them as though there could potentially be foul play until we know differently,โ€ Hall said. โ€œSome of them are more apparent than others, so we take precautions when we have questions we canโ€™t answer immediately.โ€
