The Vermont State Employees’ Association is calling on Vermont’s judiciary branch to change the process for resolving pay disputes involving front-line court workers.
The branch of the union that represents employees of the judiciary delivered a petition with hundreds of signatures to the court administrator’s office in Montpelier on Monday.
According to the union, nearly a quarter of judiciary docket clerks around the state have left their posts in the last year, many due to low rates of pay.
“We continue to believe that the establishment of a fair hearing process is the best way to stop the hemorrhaging of judiciary employees due to low pay,” Margaret Crowley, VSEA judiciary unit chair, said in a statement.
The judiciary unit of the VSEA has been in contract negotiations with court management since December. A fact-finder is expected to return a report on the dispute soon. If, after the report is returned, the two sides don’t resolve the negotiations, the contract dispute will go in front of the Vermont Labor Relations Board.
