The University of Vermont Medical Center Auxiliary is donating $1 million to the hospital’s $187.3 million inpatient building.
The auxiliary is a volunteer group that runs the hospital’s gift shop and store in South Burlington. The proceeds go to charitable causes.
The Green Mountain Care Board, the state’s health care regulatory board, required UVM Medical Center to fund $30 million of the project through philanthropy.
The UVM Medical Center’s new 128-room building will be called the Miller Building, named for Bob and Holly Miller, who are major benefactors for the hospital. The Orthopedics and Rehabilitation floor within the building will now be named for the Auxiliary.
Dr. Claude Nichols, the chair of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, said in a press release that the $1 million donation will be used for a gym, family room and rehabilitation area.
Bernarda Echo, the president of the Auxiliary, said in a press release, “The Miller Building is going to significantly enhance the experience that patients have at this already outstanding institution.”
Dr. John Brumsted, the chief executive officer of the UVM Medical Center and the UVM Health Network, said the donation was a “tremendous gift” that “reflects its steadfast and essential support of the hospital over many decades.”
