The Vermont Secretary of State released the certified votes for the March 1 presidential primary on Tuesday.
The total vote count for both Democrats and Republicans was 197,012, or 44.5 percent of Vermonters who were registered to vote.
Vermonters cast 135,256 ballots in the Democratic Primary and 61,756 ballots in the Republican Primary.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, the home state favorite, had 115,900 votes, or 85.6 percent of ballots cast, while Hillary Clinton got 18,338 ballots.
Donald Trump won 32 percent of the Republican vote, with 19,974 ballots cast. John Kasich, the Ohio governor came in second with 18,534 votes and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, was in third place with 11,781. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, came in a distant fourth with 5,932 ballots cast.
Republicans saw a 20,000 increase in the number of ballots cast compared with the 2008 primary. Pundits have attributed the bump to the presence of Trump in the Republican primary race. Trump has drawn disenfranchised voters to the polls across the nation.
The totals were issued by the Secretary of State and the statewide canvasssing committee which reviews town by town, county and statewide vote counts.
The parties will choose general election candidates at conventions in the summer. The Republican National Convention is July 18-21 in Cleveland. The Democratic National Convention is July 25-28 in Philadelphia.
