The Green Mountain Care Board has approved construction of a $12.5 million surgical suite at Copley Hospital in Morrisville, according to a press release from the hospital.

The project includes a new surgical facility, renovation to an outpatient service center and modifications to the operating room at the hospital.

The surgical suite, which will include a procedure room, a pre-operation and post-operation area and a waiting room, will be located near the main entrance to the hospital.

The original surgical facility at the hospital is more than 40 years old, according to the release.

Copley Hospital will pay for the expansion with $2.3 million in working capital, $3.2 million in community contributions and will borrow $7 million in a loan payable over 20 years.

The Green Mountain Care Board has asked Copley to report on the project every six months until it is complete.

Construction will begin this spring and is expected to be finished in December 2017.
