Matt Dunne resigned his position at Google on Monday in order to work full-time on his gubernatorial campaign. Dunne is running as a Democrat and has a primary challenger, Sue Minter, the former secretary of Transportation.

Dunne was head of community affairs for the California Internet search company for eight years. He ran the operation from an office in White River Junction.

Over the course of his career at Google, Dunne facilitated the investment of billions of dollars in international projects including affordable housing, high-speed Internet for rural and urban communities, and computer coding programs for low-income girls.

“I have loved my time at Google, but this election is too important,” Dunne said. “Vermont is at a critical juncture and people are working hard every day to solve our most difficult challenges. Vermonters deserve someone just as committed. I’m all in.”
