Fourteen presidential candidates met the deadline to qualify for the Vermont primary ballot yesterday, according to Jim Condos, the Vermont Secretary of State.
Ten Republicans qualified for placement on the March 1 ballot, including: Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, John Kasich, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Donald Trump.
Four Democrats also made the deadline: Hilary Clinton, Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders.
To qualify, each candidate was required to file a petition with the signatures of 1,000 registered voters, along with a $2,000 filing fee, to the Secretary of State by 5 p.m. Jan. 11.
Vermont’s primary will be held on Tuesday, March 1, Town Meeting Day.
Voters who want to cast a ballot in the primary must be registered by Feb. 24.
A constitutional amendment passed in 2010 allows 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by the November election to register and vote in Vermont’s presidential primary.
