Schools in Vergennes were on lockdown for about an hour Monday morning after a person with a weapon was reportedly seen near the high school.
The Vergennes Union High School and the elementary school initiated the security procedure after reports of that a person was seen holding a weapon near the schools shortly before 10 a.m., the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union stated on its Facebook page.
According to the statement, police found the individual in question and โdetermined that they were carrying a pellet gun.โ
โWe followed our lock-down procedures and all of the students remained safe through this incident,โ the supervisory union stated via social media.
At 11 a.m., Vermont State Police dispatch confirmed to VTDigger that the schools were no longer on lockdown.
