Burlington officials confirmed Thursday that the overdose deaths of two brothers in June were linked to fentanyl.
Brothers Dennis and Sean Thibault, ages 34 and 32, respectively, were found dead in Dennis Thibault’s Burlington home last month.
According to a news release from the Burlington Police Department, the chief medical examiner determined that both men died from overdosing on fentanyl — a synthetic opiate sometimes added to heroin.
Investigators confirmed last month that they found fentanyl and heroin in the apartment].
Fentanyl is a powerful narcotic painkiller that some users favor because of its potency. However, users do not always know that it is present in heroin and don’t adequately compensate for the dosage strength of the drug in the amount they take — heightening the risk of overdose.
The Burlington Police Department is offering a reward for information about who may have supplied the brothers with the drugs.
Also this month, a Randolph woman was arrested and charged with distributing fentanyl in a case linked to a man’s overdose death in April.
